Clarksville, Tennessee September 15, 2008 The American Board of Phlebology has announced that Dr. Stephen F. Daugherty has earned board certification in the specialty of phlebology . Dr. Daugherty is one of 248 vein specialists nationwide who earned certification as the first class of diplomates of the American Board of Phlebology in July, 2008. Five physicians from Tennessee and Kentucky earned the certification. Dr. Daugherty is one of three physicians in Tennessee and Kentucky who is certified by both the American Board of Phlebology and the American Board of Surgery. To become an ABPh diplomate, an applicant must complete the requisiste training or experience qualifications, meet continuing medical education requirements, be in good standing among his medical peers, and pass a certification exam. Dr. Daugherty’s certification is a direct reflection of knowledge, skill, experience, and a commitment to the advancement of vein care. Dr. Daugherty has served as invited faculty at the annual meeting of the American College of Phlebology. Dr. Daugherty is a magna cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University and earned his MD, cum laude, from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He trained for five years in Surgery at Scott and White Clinic in Temple, Texas and attained his certification by the American Board of Surgery in 1984. He has practiced vascular surgery in Clarksville since 1994 and has been responsible for bringing many new minimally-invasive methods of vein evaluation and treatment to Clarksville. Dr. Daugherty founded the Vascular Laboratory at Gateway Medical Center in 1996 for the non-invasive evaluation of vascular diseases. He founded VeinCare Center of Tennessee in 2004 and remains the Medical Director of VeinCare Center of Tennessee. VeinCare Center of Tennessee expects to move in late September into the new Medical Office Building One at the new Gateway Medical Center.
